Which Boxing Gloves To Choose

From the vast and diverse range of boxing gloves available on todays market there are some points which need to be taken into consideration when making your purchase, this will not only allow for a more effective piece of training equipment but also save you money through the long term.

First up, we recommend that you always go for leather boxing gloves. Now although they may not be as cheap as some other options, the long term quality and value for money will far surpass the initial extra expenditure. Clearly, when spending numerous hours on the heavy bag or sparring, it is of upmost importance to have quality boxing gloves, the likes of which are generally only found in leather. The only occasion when this advice does not apply is for those who are only looking to buy boxing gloves for a fitness class, which is in itself an entirely different intended usage.

Second of all, you have the choice to make between either Velcro or lace-up boxing gloves. Both can provide a tight fit and give the fighter a great degree of feeling, enhancing accuracy and coordination when secured correctly. However, lace-up boxing gloves can perhaps have the edge over a Velcro set up in the fact that they allow for a more snug fit but there is one potential problem with this. Lace-up gloves require an extended period of time to tie up and also the assistance of another person which can be a real pain in the rear. If you ever have the misfortune to attempt to untie lace-up boxing gloves alone then you will quickly come to emphasize with this reasoning. So for the less serious fighter  the option of Velcro boxing gloves would be more than adequate.

It is also recommendable to look for boxing gloves with a thumb lock, this will help in the prevention of any potentially hazardous eye gouges and also decrease the chance of injury to them thumb during a bout or in training.

When it comes to selecting the size of your boxing gloves then there are generally 3 different options to choose from. Either that of small, medium or large. As a general rule you can assume that an average male will nedd large boxing gloves, a female should go for a medium. Among Everlast, Adidas, BBE and the other brand names this sizing stays quite consistently similar. Boxing gloves also range in weight from between 10 to 20 ounces. The heavier the glove the more protection provided. Most professional bouts are conducted with 10 ounce boxing gloves where as for beginners a heavier glove of around 16 ounces plus would be more suitable.

The final point to remember is to get hold of some hand wraps. They will help to protect your bones and tendons from injury and for the small price they cost buying a set of hand wraps to optimize protection once inside your boxing gloves is the only sensible option to take. Remember that hand wraps will also change amount of room needed in a boxing glove.
